...so much talk, so much ado about Misha Collins (Castiel in Supernatural- Yep, I watch that too) playing Elliot Ness (of the Untouchables. The ones who stopped Capone. Who was played by Kevin Costner in the movies from the 90s)in "Timeless", and then, he got three senes, amounting at maybe five minutes. His most memorable quote was about the time-traveling man (who was supposed to be going in the 60s) wearing what he claimed was a woman's sweather...

  1. As of the first, I'll be in vacancy. Yay, you say? Well, I guess it may be right- even if I've got so many things to do, that I don't know how I'll manage to do all of them in two weeks. I swear.

  2. I've finished finally my goodreads challenge for this year! 60 books-as in novels, essays and biographies- plus a good amount of graphic novels. And the whole Full Metal Alchemist Collection, all the 27 volumes (which I devoured in, like, 3 or 4 days this summer).

  3. Amazon Prime Video just got in Italy! And, as I've got Prime membership, it means unlimited videos for a year at less than 20 €. Which is what I apy monthly for my Mediaset Premium subscription (even if there's also soccer there, too. The reason I signed with them in the first place. For Drew and dad, mind you. I couldn't care any less about soccer).

  4. I'm updating my end-of-the year masterpost for all the fics I've written. Over 30 of them, if I'm not mistaken. The majority of them over 2k.

  5. I'm re-watching NCIS:New Orleans. New Episodes are gonna air in a week or so, but I was missing it, so, yep, grabbed my dvr and I'm been rewatching teh show since the NCIS dpuble episode pilot. I'm alsmost finished with season 1, which is kind of sad, because, well, the second part of season one was kind of all shades of sad.

  6. I'm thinking about posting all the books I've been reading over the course of the year,  sort of like a master post- Who knows. maybe, just maybe...

little_firestar: (b&w clint)
At the schedule presentation for next season, the show was missing; CBS, when asked by TVLine, answered that the network is currently trying to "ship the shows to some other network"....
Which means that, come November, we'll never discover if CGI blue eyed Bradley Cooper will be the next president of the USA or if the FBI will be able to prove without any doubt that he was corrupt and dirty...

The community I was part of and "used" [EZ] is now offering only mkw files for whatever reason- they still have the same video quality and there are no subs or additional audio files, as it's costumary with .MKW files - and they are, I feel, heavier on my old computer. Also, not  all my tvs at home like mkw files, so it's annoying to have to download and then convert it in mp4.
Any community you know of that still "offer" mp4?
Please note that altough I watch them, I DON'T keep them, and I've been known to buy DVDs of the shows I particularly enjoyed or at least them watch them on the Italian networks when they air here.

Borrowed from [personal profile] ruuger

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2014?
Uhm... New shows, The Flash and Constantine, 'cause I'm a sci-fi/comic book freak (Constantine mostly because I've had a thing for Matt Ryan since Criminal Minds Suspect behavior), and also, considering shows that were already airing abroad/were edned abroad but just aired in Italy so I just had occasion to catch up with them: Stargate  Atlantis and Broadchurch. Which I adored. (And btw, I also catched up with USA's own version of the show, GRACEPOINT, also featuring Tennant as the lead detective).
Which TV shows did you let go of in 2014?
Oh. Gracepoint, after a couple of episodes. And Homeland- I've heard that the last season has been quite good, but the show wqsn't too astonishing back when I stopped watching it...
Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2014? Why?
The Fall
Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2015?
The Fall. I'm pretty sure that I will look at it.
Which TV show impressed you least in 2014?
I'm pretty sure that it's The vampire Diarires. Even nowadays, especially when Elena and Jeremy are on screen, I fast-forward, because the show is transforming them into trope. or mary-sues- Or whatever. Also Doctor Who, but I think it was because I saw too much in the... doing? I'm not even sure if I can expalin myself: I was looking too much forward Cpaldi as The Doctor, and also, I was wondering - actually, I was sure- that there wouyld have been a deeper connection between him being the doctor and the role Capaldi played in the Pompeii episode back when Tennat was the doctor and his companion was Donna Noble... (yes, I did hope Donna would be back for at least one epsiode)
Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2015 unless things significantly improve?
Vampire Diaries. Defnitely.
Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
I don't think I'll ever stop getting back with Doctor Who- I abandon it, and then I watch it again and catch up with lost episodes. Also, probably because I'm a masochist, Once upon a time, despite my deepest hate for Charming and Snow White. And well, the mentalist.
Which TV show did you enjoy the most in 2014?
Besides the last scene of the Mentalist season 6? Major Crimes. I'm pretty sure it's one of the best procedurals on tv right now.

 1. Your main fandom of the year:  Uhm. I think it's win-win-win between The Mentalist, Arrow, and Stargate Atlantis, which I discovered in April, when it first started airing for free in Italy.
2. Your favorite film this year: Gotta say, I didn't saw a lot of movies this year; BUT I loved Guardians of the Galaxy. Because it was so much like Star Wars meet Indiana Johns meets Friendship is magic, and the 80s soundtrack, man, a girl from that time gotta love it.
3. Your favorite book this year: I read a lot (less than the other years, tough), but mostly old books. But I loved, like any other year, Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan novel, and I'm quite fond of that silly little thing that Bluhm Detlef's book "Everything you've ever wished to know about cats" sort of made me happy...
4. Your favorite album or song this year: Oh, dear... One Republic's Native from last year, but the singles "I lived" and "LOve runs out" were both released this year. And I loved I lived. I really do.
5. Your favorite TV show this year: I'm sorry, but it's Major Crimes.
6. Your favorite LJ community this year: The Haven't really followed any this year, sadly, with maybe the exception of the X-Files one...
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year:  Stargate Atlantis
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year:  the new season of Doctor Who.
9. Your TV boyfriend of the year: Lance Hunter from Agents of Shield.
10. Your TV girlfriend of the year: Teresa Lisbon from The Mentalist, forever and ever
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year: Jane and Lisbon again like last year- the whole episode finale fo season 6. maybe even the plane scene, despite being a bit of clichè.
12.  Your most missed old fandom: The X-files.
13. Your fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?   The Fall or Outlander
14. Your biggest anticipation of the New Year:  The second Season of Broadchurch

little_firestar: (THE MENTALIST BEARD)
So...
I haven't looked that much at PSYCH over the years, but when I was down, that was the show I turned to; procedural, but silly, and with a male lead in his middle thirties who was, let's admit it, quite handsome.
And Besides, let's be honest: Chief Lassiter ("Lassie") was played by Timothy Homudson, a guy I've always, always appreciated as an actor- hell, I think his version of Red Lion Commnader Lance was the hottest thing ever....
but anyway...besides the great lines (almost all of them from Lassie ("I wasn't a detective for nothing" is just one of them, and the situation just made me laught like crazy) I just adored one of the last scenes (and yeah, too seeing Van Kilmer's cameo as well) because, well...
Shawn: We can set up shop here. We c--we can solve crimes. And, chief, we're gonna be twice as efficient now. [...]
Chief: Um, but, Mr. Spencer, we already have a guy.
Spencer:  What? Oh, really? I-I don't see him.
Det. Juliet O'Hara: He's in the kitchen,
And I swear, when tehy said that at the crime scene? I honeslt thought that Simon Baker was going to appear, dressed like Patrick jane with a 3 pieces suite, drinking tea in his "don't mind me" attitude, introducing himself with a little variation of his own name (because usa network isn't cbs, so...)
ehy. a girl can dream, right? and maybe... dream a little.

(note: the meme follows mostly Italian airings/releases, so forgive any inaccurancy)

1. Your main fandom of the year:  It's kinf of hard to say. it's a battle between TNC's Major Crimes and CBS' The Mentalist. And even if I think that in season 4 and 5 TM was a bit frail in few spots, well, I still love with a passion. And I would never let it go. So, yeah- The Mentalist.
2. Your favorite film this year: I'll say The Silver Lining playbook- I know it's a 2012 movie, but in Italy in was relreased in March, 2013, so let's pretend it's a 2013 movie, shall we?
3. Your favorite book this year: Strangely enough, it's an Italian book. it's a short novel, by actor/director/screenwriter/novelist Rocco Papaleo: Una piccola Inpresa meridionale. Papaleo also wrote, starred and directed the movie based on his novel, and I'm planning on catching up with it as soon as it hit the stores. As for English books... "ARGO" ny Matt baglio and Frank Mendez, about the CIA operation narrated in the namesake movie.
4. Your favorite album or song this year: Bonfire heart by James Blunt
5. Your favorite TV show this year: Uhm. Mentalist or Major Crimes? Favorite.. Major Crimes. The charactes developed quite nicely in the second season. I came to apprecoiate characters that in The Closer I hated, and discovered they are just human beings.
6. Your favorite LJ community this year: The Mentalist Big Bang. Because through the Mentalist I got an hold of many new friends :)
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year: Arrow or Elementary? Between the two...  Arrow.
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year: NCIS: RED the third NCIS spin-off that, in fact, didn't go in production. It was awaited for months and months, and then... ugh. With the exception of Scott Grimes' character, it was a terrible pilot with terrible acting.
9. Your TV boyfriend of the year: Tommy Merlyn from Arrow. Unfortunately, he is currently dead, but at June he was still alive :)
10. Your TV girlfriend of the year: Teresa Lisbon . againa nd again and again. I'd marry her.
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year: Jane and Lisbon seeing each other again for the first time after tow years. oh, and the first scene of Capaldi as the new doctor.
12.  Your most missed old fandom: The X-files. the fact it was 20 years since the pilot this september made me miss it more and more.
13. Your fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? Scandal? The Newroom? I've just saw glimpses of Scandal, and I haven't been able to get a real feel out of thiese few minutes....
14. Your biggest anticipation of the New Year: Peter Capaldi as 12. :) can't wait to see him. I was already  taken in the first scene :)

tv... meh.

little_firestar: (closer brenda)
So...I finally decided to let it go of a couple of shows.
First, Sherlock: I am sorry, but as much as I love the actors, I prefer Elementary. At least, there, I don't hate complitely Holmes, so...

Second, I decided to abandon Castle too-finally.. I haven't really liked that much these last couple of seasons, and this year it felt just like any other procedural-only more boring. A couple of new characters really made me hate them, and I felt old characters didn't act like themselves. I also didn't like how the beginning of the season was handled. they promised great changes, and instead to ses them to keep the audience glued to the screen, they returned to the status quoin a couple of episodes, and got rid of interesting characters that had been there for just one or two episodes. Also, they completely forgot about past story-lines, that would have made sense once again. If Castle's dad is world's leading secret spy and always kept an eye on his family, wouldn't it make sense that he would eb back when his son was dying because a terrorist had released a mass-destruction bio-enginered virus, and only the terrorist knew where the antidote was?
So... goodbye Castle.

Well, well, well... at long last, I finally ended up writing the second half of this post, with the tv shows I ahve been watching- or that I've been trying to watch- a short commentary. And by the way, isn't Jeremy Renner so sexy in super cool-super elegant- super sexy spy? No? Well, I am gonna be honest here. I watch Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol, and I think "Oh, look, here there is, Hawkeye working undercover!" I am bad, I know- also because Renner's character in MIGP is way smarter and clever than Clint Barton had ever been and.... Oh, right. Television. I wasn't supposed to talk about Renner's coolness as an hitman-. Right. Sorry for the delay. Anyway...where were we? Yeah, tv, right. So....

Gosh, I haven't been this exited about new things being published and airing on tv in a while, so...yes.
Last week the X-files: Season 10 comic book went out. I red it, and it's amazing. Way better than anything that has been published, as comic and novels, about the show, probably because there are the creative minds, including Carter, of the show behind it. And it's in continuity with everything, set in present time! And in issue one we learn thatDana's baby never actually died, but she gave him up for adoption and told only Fox about this, faking the child's death to keep him out of her crazy life with crazy scentists and aliens and conspirancies.
I also saw the pilot episode of Crossing Lines. I missed it three weeks ago when it aired in Italy, and gotta say, I am kind of happy about it. Why? I never fancied, acting wise, Italian actress Gabriella Pession, but here, playing Italian Police Agent Eva Vittoria, she is just... wow. She is great. She is a beatiful woman, and her acting improved dramatically over the last few years. She is amazing, and when she acts in English she just gaves her best . In one of her main scenes, she was opposed to a holy monster such as Donald Sutherland, and she was simply magnificent. The story is good-well, there are the creators of Criminal Minds behind it, after all- and the general acting too. A cast from all over the wolrd, amd they simply compliment each other. It's not a Babel as I feared, it's a perfect balance, with Sutherland being the icing on the cake.

Under the dome? Wow. I am quite a fan of the most recent Stephen King related works, and the adaption of his owrk is quite good. I like it as a product, even if I am not sure how long I will follow it. I think there is a good chance I'll stick around in the long run, even just to see how different from the book- I know the synopsys of- it will be. But in general, if quality doesn't degenerate, I tend to stick around when soemthing is apreciated as much as this thing (in fact, last year I said since episode one that I was probably already done following the following...)
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a copy of Under the dome to find, because I want to read the whole book before next episode of thow airs...

I want to know about hiatusfic

document started: late march, last worked on: 15th April 2012.
fandom: New girl. I've been rather obsessed with the show- I think also because for few months I was completely rejecting everything else, included (and especially) the mentalist. The story was labeled as "hiatusfic" as temporary name because I was writing it while waiitng for the few weeks of hiatus between the episodes to pass. as for the plot, it was set on CeCe's wedding day, with Cece almost getting cold feet, Schmidt trying to talk people in beleiveing he ahd been into a relationship with her because he actually liked her and not simply because she was good looking, and Nick and Jess ending up running into the sun(yeah, I saw that coming.)

"When does this guy is going to ask us if we all agree to this marriage?" Sandwitched between Nick and Elizabeth, Schmidt kept tapping with his left foor against the floor, staring like a maniac at the couple getting married few feet from him.
"That's an arranged Indian marriage, big boy. I don't think that love guru over there will ever ask such a question" Elizabeth tried to explain, her hand not so oft as she slapped him like he was a petuland child asking for ice cream when he  wasn't supposed to. Which he kind of was.
"What? But she can't marry him! He just wants her for her hot model body!"
"Right buddy, because you dated her for over six months because you were attracted by her mind alone..."
"I was attracted by her personality, Nicholas, and the fact that everything was  well when she was around. She made me happy, without being my personal lapdog. Do you have idea how rare it is in my world?"
"Schmidt, I have only one word for you: jar."
"Yeah, and whatever he means? I agree with him."
Schmidt simply rolled his eyes, composing himself and his clothes at the same time, and then, just like that, coughing to get attention... he stood up, with Cece looking at him in the vain hope that her mind could kill that idiot.
"You honor, I object!" he screamed.
"This isn't a court of law, you idiot! That's not a JAG rerun!" Nick felt almost offended, as an almost lawyer. He did his best to hide his face between his hands. He didn't want for people to know that he was friends with that idiot.

well, I just saw, through itunes, the pilot of mattew perry's new show, "go on",which should premeir next semptember-october.
well... and I'm not sure. the shows isperfect for Perry's comedic side, but with a small amount of darnkness and pain_ is the story of a radio performer who's snet into theraphy to deal with his grief over the death of his wife.
apparently, that should be the main topic: showing the pain and the wayto get back, and move on, of all the group through perry's character and his unusual way of helping the others out... there's the boy who has lost the brother, and didn't say a word untill perry's character satrted to talk with him about more or less nothing, the woamn who gets her anger out for the loss of her gilrfriend, and so on.... even if, i have to say, the most chomicl thing is looking at Lauren, the grieving counselor, who's been a weightwatcher "operative" and uses her old methods on people who has lost their beloved, so sure that there's no wya it can't be not working....

another show deling with theraphy is "COMMON LAW", which ended last week. A whole middle season , and I don't know how I feel about it, even if, if i have to be hisnet, the finale was the best thing doen untill now, probably because it looked like more like a common cop show, and not s mixture between comedy and cop show.

notable mentions: After almost 8 years, Kyra Sedgwick - the woman in the pics eating bisquits -is leaving TNT'S "The Closer", leaving her team to deal with MAry McDonnell's character, Sharon Raydor, who's been a regular in the closer for the last couple of seasons;  as from this night, "The Closer" leaves room to "Major Crimes", maintaning an almost uncahnged cast.
