homosexuality in comic books- aka a topic that shouldn't be a topic.
Less than a week apart, two of the main comic book publishers, Marvel and DC Comics launched press released where they stated that they were going to make theri first openly gay character. Northstar/Jena-Paul, getting married to his long-time boyfriend Kyle (Marvel) and were going to turn a character from the past, known in the previous time-line as straight, into gay (DC Comics).
Both publishers made a big deal about it, but I wonder if is the case. Why? Because we are in the 21st century, and discussing a thing such as sexual orientation should be like discussing hair color. saying that you're gay, straight or bisexual, in a perfect world, shoudl be like saying that you are a redhead or a brunette (even if marvel discuss amply when redheads are involved. it usually emans that fan will start speculating Jean Grey is back from the death once again)
Organisation One Million Moms asked to boicot both opublishers, stating about the books -RATED T BY THE PUBLISHEWRS, IF NOT T+ -
"Children desire to be just like superheroes. Children mimic superhero actions and even dress up in costumes to resemble these characters as much as possible. Can you imagine little boys saying, "I want a boyfriend or husband like X-Men?"
This is ridiculous! Why do adult gay men need comic superheroes as role models? They don't but do want to indoctrinate impressionable young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals in a positive light. These companies are heavily influencing our youth by using children's superheroes to desensitize and brainwash them in thinking that a gay lifestyle choice is normal and desirable. As Christians, we know that homosexuality is a sin (Romans 1:26-27).
Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to homosexuality at an early age. Comic books would be one of the last places a parent would expect their child to be confronted with homosexual topics that are too complicated for them to understand. Children do not know what straight, homosexual, or coming out of the closet even means, but DC Comics and Marvel are using superheroes to confuse them on this topic to raise questions and awareness of an alternative lifestyle choice. These companies are prompting a premature discussion on sexual orientation.
This, in this centiry, in this year. I would suggest this people, to go and burn as many as theri book from Ancient Greece and the latin World altogether, becasue we all know that the majority of the great minds of the time were either homosexual or Bisexual, and maybe even stop teaching history. Who wants to know about Alexander the great, right?
God, why does it feel that as much as we evolve, the less evolved we are?

As for
Can you imagine little boys saying, "I want a boyfriend or husband like X-Men?"
I have never heard a little boy say he wanted a girlfriend or wife like a particular character either! Who are these people kidding?!!

What I cannot understanmd, is why they should be concerned about little boys. The books- at least the aforementioned X-Men title- is for teen audience and up, not fo all ages. It kind of remembered me of the time a mother arugued about another comic book title, that the led female character- a former slave - was too open minded concerning the men she slept with, and didn't felt like being nto a stable relationship yet because she didn't wnat to feel like she was property of someone else again. This mum argued that, after SHE GAVE HER DAUGHTER THE BOOK, she had to expalin to her 7 years daughter (seven. years.old. daughter) why the lead character was so "free" concerning the men she was sleeping with, and asked the publishers to change route, but then again: on the cover, it was displayed more than once, and with quite big fonts, that the book was TEEN +. And she made it read to her 7 years old daughter.
Now, publishers, especially cmonic books one, still remember the yuears of the comic book authority, remember when comic books were tagged as a way to teach children dirrespectufulness and so on. they rember tickets by governemnts and reprimandations by the CBA. Thta's why they are careful enough to dispoly sensitive topic in adeguate books, and it's up to the parents knowing what it's better for the child.
nevertheless, they try to teach acceptance even through comic books characrter, but this doesn't mean the childrne will suddnely emulate them as well in the sexual department.
shockjing how still nowadays people is little-minded.
